US Weather Map
Weather forecast is made by collecting current state of the atmosphere and applying current scientific understanding of atmospheric processes to project how the atmosphere will evolve. Data such as barometric pressure, current weather conditions, and sky condition, forecast models are now used to predict weather forcast.
Knowledge of experts are required to pick the best possible forecast model. Picking best possible model involves pattern recognition skills, teleconnections, knowledge of model performance, and knowledge of model biases. Accuracy of the extended weather forcast is limited by atmospheric chaotic nature, the massive computational power needed in solving atmospheric equations, error in measuring the initial conditions, and an incomplete understanding of atmospheric processes.
